Position Overview
Civil Design Engineer (P.Eng.)
As a Civil Design Engineer (P.Eng.) at M2 Engineering you will be responsible for various aspects of designing civil infrastructure associated with water and wastewater systems including but not limited to underground pipelines, forcemains, site utilities, site grading and ponds. In addition, you will be responsible for aspects of civil engineering design related to commercial buildings, such as site utility plans, and site grading plans. This position requires you to assist in the preparation of studies, pre-designs, and detailed designs as well as assist with construction activities. In this position, you will work side by side our engineering team to troubleshoot problems and help find efficient and effective solutions for our clients.
This position requires experience in the design of water and wastewater underground infrastructure and experience working with a multi-discipline project team. Wastewater infrastructure design tasks of this position require a thorough understanding of wastewater collections systems, lift stations, wastewater forcemains, and lagoons. Water infrastructure design tasks of this position require a thorough understanding of raw water storage ponds, pipelines, pump stations, and utility site servicing and site grading.
Depending on the projects available, this position may require meetings out of the office, and therefore, requires driving to project meetings, when required. This position requires driving to projects sites throughout Alberta, staying overnight in hotels, and being able to work 8-12 hours a day, when required.

Design

- Design of water supply, treatment and distribution infrastructure, such as raw water supply systems, raw water storage ponds, watermains and pipelines, water treatment plants, pump stations, and truck fill stations
- Design wastewater infrastructure, such as wastewater collections systems, lift stations, wastewater forcemains, wastewater lagoons, and wastewater treatment facilities.
- Design water/wastewater pipelines, including an understanding of land acquisitions, crossing agreements, environmental restrictions/limitations, wetland policies, and other requirements of Alberta Environment and Parks
- Design civil site utilities and site grading for facilities such as pump stations, water treatment plants, lift stations, lagoons and wastewater treatment facilities
- Design civil site utilities and site grading for commercial building projects
- Coordinate with drafting team to develop detailed design drawings
- Coordinate multi-discipline teams and sub-consultants
- Develop engineering drawings and engineering details
- Develop front-end contract specifications for procurement
- Develop technical specifications
Construction Contract Administration & Activities
- Oversee the work of technical staff when applicable to projects/assignments
- Review, understand and interpret construction Contract Documents, Drawings, and Specifications
- Assist with construction submittals, such as: schedules, shop drawings, request for information enquiries, contractor progress claims, material performance test reports, contract changes, etc.
- Conduct engineering site visits / field reviews, to review if construction work generally conforms to the project drawings and specifications
- Assist with the commissioning of projects
Qualifications
The Civil Design Engineer (P.Eng.) position requires candidates with the following qualifications:
- Must hold a valid Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Engineering. Degrees in either Civil or Civil-Environmental are acceptable.
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in consulting engineering, specifically in civil engineering area of practice. Candidates with less experience may be considered subject to specific experience and skillsets. Experience in consulting engineering, specifically in civil infrastructure and/or water and wastewater areas of practice.
- Must be in good standing with APEGA as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
- Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s licence.
