Engineering Student Work-Term

As an Engineering Student at M2 Engineering you will join our team for an 8-month placement to assist in the planning, design, and construction of water and wastewater infrastructure. You will work side by side our engineering team to troubleshoot problems and help find efficient and effective solutions for our clients. You will be exposed to various aspects consulting engineering in the planning, design, and construction of water and wastewater infrastructure, including the preparation of studies, pre-designs, detailed designs, as well as construction related activities.

This position requires highly developed organizational and time management skills. You will be driven to continually improve and be enthusiastic and positive about learning new ways to better the business.

In this position, you are required to responsible, self-motivated, detailed oriented, and a great communicator. As an Engineering Student you are required to provide excellent support to our engineering teams and our clients, must be able to develop and troubleshoot solutions in a busy environment, and possess the roles and responsibilities outlined.

This position will require field related work, and therefore, requires driving to projects sites throughout Alberta, staying overnight in hotels, and being able to work 8-12 hours a day, when required.

This position is available as a fixed term for an 8-month placement.

Studies & Reports

  • Assist with background data collection and analysis
  • Assist with assessment of existing water/wastewater systems
  • Assist with developing options to address project objectives
  • Assist with cost estimating options to address project objectives
  • Assist with compiling and editing written work from others into a single coherent document

Design Activities

  • Assist in process engineering design to size/select individual components that support overall infrastructure design, such as piping systems, chemical feed systems, and process-specific treatment systems
  • Assist in the design of water supply, treatment and distribution infrastructure, such as raw water supply systems, water treatment plants, pump stations, and truck fill stations
  • Assist in the design of wastewater infrastructure, such as wastewater collections systems, lift stations, wastewater forcemains, lagoons, and wastewater treatment facilities
  • Assist in the design of water/wastewater pipelines
  • Assist with technical specification development and writing
  • Assist with detailed design drawing development

Construction Activities

  • Assist with construction management activities, such as reviewing budgets, schedules, shop drawings, request for information enquiries, contractor progress claims, material performance test reports, etc.
  • Assist the project team in the performance field engineering reviews to review if construction work generally conforms to the project drawings and specifications.
  • Assist with preparation of construction field review reports
  • Assist with the commissioning of water/wastewater infrastructure

Qualifications


The Engineering Student position requires candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Candidate must be enrolled in Engineering at an accredited university. Engineering discipline programs suitable for this placement include: Civil and Civil-Environmental.
  • Student must have completed 4 terms of their engineering curriculum.
  • Candidate must be in good standing with their university.
  • Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s licence.
